Antique Black Glass Oil Lamp Converted to Electric | Hand Painted Floral Table Lamp

Beautiful antique black glass oil lamp that has been converted for use as an electric table lamp.

The lamp is constructed from two shapely sections of glossy black glass, both decorated with delicate hand-painted floral designs in soft white, blue-gray and gold tones. A warm aged-brass connector separates the two glass sections, while the lamp rests on an ornate square metal base with decorative feet.

The overall form and construction are reminiscent of late Victorian and turn-of-the-century parlor lamps. Similar hand-painted black glass oil lamps are documented from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I have not located a maker’s mark on this example, so the exact manufacturer and date are unknown.

The lamp was originally made as an oil lamp and has since been converted to electricity. It has been fitted with a new electrical cord and new socket, making it ready for use as a table lamp while retaining the character of the original oil lamp.
