Antique Champlevé Enamel Bronze Lamp – 39” Tall 19th Century Statement Table Lamp

This spectacularly tall antique lamp features intricate Champlevé enamel decoration over what appears to be bronze, creating an ornate, richly colored piece with incredible presence.

Champlevé is a traditional enameling technique in which recessed areas of the metal surface are filled with enamel and fired, producing colorful decoration separated by exposed metal. The finished appearance is often compared to Cloisonné, although the two techniques are quite different.

Based on its construction, materials, and decorative style, we believe this lamp likely dates to the late 19th century, a period when Champlevé experienced a significant revival in European decorative arts. The metal appears to be bronze, although we have not had it professionally tested or authenticated.

The enamel work is remarkably well preserved. Deep red, cream, blue, green and black details wind their way through the dark bronze-colored metal, giving the lamp a wonderfully rich, almost architectural appearance.

And this is a very tall lamp.

At 39 1/4 inches tall, it has enough scale to make a substantial statement on a console, large side table, library table or other piece of furniture where a smaller lamp would simply disappear.

Condition:
The decorative enamel detailing is in fabulous condition for its age.

The existing bottom base presents a small functional quirk worth noting. There is a small cutout intended to allow the electrical cord to exit beneath the lamp. The cord must be positioned carefully within this opening or the lamp can sit on the cord and wobble slightly.

Because of that, we believe this lamp could benefit from the addition of a more substantial base beneath the existing one. Difficult Creek Lighting can provide this service for an additional fee. Please contact us before purchasing if you would like to discuss having a new base fitted.

The lamp has not been rewired by Difficult Creek Lighting and retains its existing wiring. Rewiring is also available for an additional fee upon request.
