A striking pair of oversized vintage brass horse head bookends, each mounted on a solid wood base.
At approximately 12 inches tall, these are substantially larger than the typical brass horse bookends and have a commanding sculptural presence. The horses feature beautifully modeled faces, expressive eyes, detailed manes and upright ears, all rendered in warm golden brass.
Their large scale makes them ideal not only as functional bookends, but also as decorative sculptures for a library, office, mantel, console, study or equestrian-inspired interior.
The brass shows natural age-related patina, oxidation and surface variation, giving the pair plenty of vintage character. Please note that the two wooden bases are different colors, with one appearing lighter and warmer and the other darker brown. I would make sure this is clearly shown in the listing photographs.
Measurements, each approximately:
-
Height: 12 inches
-
Front to back: 7.5 inches
-
Ear to ear: 5.75 inches
-
Wood base: 5 x 5.75 inches
These are substantial pieces and somewhat heavy, so they feel much more like decorative sculpture than lightweight bookends.
Vintage condition with age-related wear and patina. Please review all photographs closely, particularly the brass surfaces and the difference in color between the two wood bases.
Sold as a pair.
