Tall Vintage Uranium Glass Lamp

This vintage glass lamp glows neon green under black light. This means the glass contains some uranium. Uranium was initially added to glass to add color. It also improved the clarity and refractive qualities of glass, helped to create a smooth, even finish, reduced imperfections in pressed and blown glass, and made molded designs crisper and more brilliant.

Today, lamps containing uranium, which glow under black light are highly collectible!

This lamp came with part of the base missing. I replaced it with a new wood base, painting it a deep purple and then altering the purple with black and bronze wax for added depth, which also reduced the intensity of the purple.

This lamp looks great with a 16” drum shade or our large empire shade.
