Vintage 1950s Black Panther Ceramic Table Lamp with Yellow Venetian Blind Shade | Mid-Century Modern Kitsch Tiered Aluminum Stepped Accent Light

Vintage 1950s Mid-Century Modern Black Panther Lamp with Yellow Tiered Stepped Metal Shade

The Story & Design

Unleash the ultimate mid-century statement piece with this phenomenally rare 1950s atomic-era black panther table lamp. A true triumph of retro kitsch and clever industrial design, the heavy ceramic base features a sleek, high-gloss black panther crouching on a rocky ledge beneath a stylized tree trunk post. Grounding the feline's predatory stance are two clusters of vibrant, built-in yellow and white plastic faux-chrysanthemums nestled directly into the ceramic base.

The crown jewel of this piece is its remarkable, original yellow-painted stepped aluminum Venetian blind shade. Constructed from nesting rectangular metal tiers, the panels are held together by flexible, interlocking metal bead chains (resembling vintage pull-chains). When suspended from the harp, gravity pulls the chains taut to form a striking, architectural pyramid. When taken down, the tiers collapse completely flat, nesting inside one another like Russian dolls! When illuminated, the open horizontal steps cast a spectacular, dramatic louvred shadow pattern across your walls.
